Guided as he was by the Holy Spirit in this process of reading and interviewing, he had determined to “write an orderly account” of the central events of faith for a man named “Theophilus” [Thē-äʹ-fĭ-ləs]. (cf. Acts 1:1). Since this proper name means God-lover, we cannot be certain whether he was a personal addressee for this tract or whether the extremely literate Luke was reaching out by the use of this name for all whose hearts were open to making a response to God’s love for them as witnessed
